Fukuyama + Anime = “Fukuyamanime”!

Located at the center of the Seto Inland Sea coast in the eastern part of Hiroshima Prefecture, Fukuyama was the inspiration for the city in the Fafner in the Azure, Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, and more recently AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline.
With the cooperation of people involved in anime and other subcultures with ties to the Fukuyama-Hiroshima area, this event promotes their outstanding artistry and things that shine bright in the spheres of comics and anime but have yet to receive world attention!

The venue is the area around JR Fukuyama Station, where you can leisurely enjoy shopping and the commercial district, movie theaters, and Fukuyama Castle. There’s also an amusement park about 30 minutes by car from JR Fukuyama Station. Fukuyamanime offers many ways to enjoy yourself, including cosplay, cosplay performances, talk shows featuring voice actors and creators, live performances of anime songs, exhibits and sales of original manga and novels, film screenings, plastic model and figure exhibits, survival games, and a real mystery-solving game in which you play a central role.

Another highlight is the large number of cosplayers, with over 1,000 attending every year. The area around JR Fukuyama Station and the amusement park is all cosplay-friendly, and you can enjoy participating in all Fukuyamanime events in costume! There are also many great photo spots, as well as restaurants where you can dine and take photos inside.

Another must-see is Tomonoura, which served as the model for Fafner in the Azure and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea. It’s only about 30 minutes by car from JR Fukuyama Station.
